B2B software review websites

Software Review Sites: Best Software Review Websites Compared

Who owns each platform, what a listing actually costs a vendor, and whose ratings survive the fact that placement is sold.

Short answer: the largest software review sites are G2, Capterra, Software Advice, GetApp and TrustRadius. Four of those five are now the same company, because G2 closed its acquisition of Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp from Gartner on February 5, 2026 for roughly $110 million. TrustRadius, owned by HG Insights since June 2025, is the main independent platform left at that scale. Reviews on all of them are usually genuine; the running order is paid, so read the reviews and ignore the ranking.

Ownership as of September 2026, and vendor cost as each platform publishes it. Where a price is private, the table says so rather than guessing. Where a rival does something better than we do, it says that too.

Review site Owner How a vendor pays Published cost Review integrity Best for
G2 G2, independent Annual vendor plan, quoted by sales Not published. Vendr buyer data puts the median contract near $27,000 a year Accepts incentivized reviews, sells category placement Enterprise RFP shortlists and category reports
Capterra G2 since February 2026, previously Gartner Pay per click auction on category pages $2.00 per click floor, roughly $500 a month practical minimum Validated reviews, paid bids decide category order Mature categories with real click volume, such as CRM and accounting
Software Advice G2 since February 2026, previously Gartner Lead fees and referral placement Not published, sold per qualified lead Reviews shared across the Gartner era network Vendors who want a phone qualified lead rather than a click
GetApp G2 since February 2026, previously Gartner Pay per click, same network as Capterra Not published separately Shares the Capterra review pool Extra surface area once you already bid on Capterra
TrustRadius HG Insights since June 2025 Annual vendor plan Not published Reviewers are pre authenticated, no pay to play ranking Buyers who want depth over volume, IT and enterprise software
SourceForge Slashdot Media Free listing, paid promotion optional Free tier, promotion quoted separately Open listing model, very large catalog Developer tools, open source and downloadable software
Product Hunt Product Hunt Free to launch, promotion optional Free to post Upvotes and comments, not structured reviews One launch day spike and early adopters
SaaS Reviews Independent Flat fee per listing $49 one time for a priority listing, published on the page Ratings are not for sale, paid placement is labeled Early stage and niche products the big catalogs have not indexed

Prices move. Capterra publishes its click floor in its pay per click service description, G2 and TrustRadius quote privately, and the figure attributed to Vendr is buyer reported contract data rather than a list price. Check the platform before you sign.

The consolidation changed the answer

Every listicle written before 2026 tells you to spread your budget across G2, Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp so you are not dependent on one platform. That advice is now wrong. G2 announced the acquisition on January 29, 2026 and closed it on February 5 for roughly $110 million, so those four catalogs answer to one commercial team.

For a buyer, it means cross checking a shortlist across Capterra and G2 is no longer an independent second opinion. For a vendor, it means the diversification argument for paying all four is gone, and the negotiating leverage that came from playing them against each other went with it.

TrustRadius is the one large platform outside that group, and it has been owned by HG Insights since June 2025. Below that tier, the useful sources are narrower directories that cover products the big catalogs have not indexed.

Where the big catalogs have a blind spot

The large review sites are organized around mature categories. A CRM or a help desk has hundreds of reviews and a dozen serious contenders, and the catalogs cover that well. A company founded eighteen months ago, selling an AI agent to a few hundred customers, usually has no profile at all.

That is the gap this directory works in. 672 products are listed across 41 categories, and a large share of them are early stage companies where the search results are otherwise the vendor's own site, a LinkedIn page and a funding announcement.

If you are vetting one of those vendors, the questions that matter are the same ones you would ask in an enterprise procurement review, just without a category report to lean on: who owns the domain, what happens to your data, what the renewal terms are, and who else has actually paid them.

How to use software review sites

If you are buying software

  1. 1. Ignore the category order. On G2 and Capterra the top of a category page reflects spend as much as quality. Sort by review count or recency instead.
  2. 2. Read the two and three star reviews. Five star reviews are the ones most likely to have been solicited with an incentive. The middling ones describe the actual friction.
  3. 3. Check the review dates. A product that pivoted last year has reviews describing software that no longer exists.
  4. 4. Cross check outside the G2 group. Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp are no longer independent of G2, so a second opinion has to come from somewhere else.
  5. 5. Ask the vendor directly. Request a reference customer at your size, a written quote at your real seat count, and the renewal uplift in writing.

If you are listing software

  1. 1. Claim every free profile first. Capterra is free to claim and free to respond to reviews. Do that before you pay anyone.
  2. 2. Buy a fixed price listing next. A flat fee gives you an indexable profile and a link for a known number. A click auction does not tell you what a customer costs until after you have spent.
  3. 3. Measure visitor to trial rate. Once you know it from a fixed price channel, you can judge whether a $5 Capterra click is a bargain or a donation.
  4. 4. Bid on Capterra only in a category with volume. The $2.00 floor is theoretical; crowded categories run well past $10 per click.
  5. 5. Buy G2 when buyers ask for it. An annual plan makes sense once enterprise prospects start citing G2 in RFPs, not before.

Software review sites: common questions

What are the best software review sites?

G2 is the largest B2B software review site, Capterra has the widest category coverage, and TrustRadius has the strictest reviewer verification. Since G2 acquired Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp in February 2026, four of the five biggest catalogs belong to one company, so TrustRadius and independent directories are now the main alternative sources.

Are software review sites such as G2 and Capterra trustworthy?

The reviews are usually from real users, because both platforms verify identity before publishing. What is not neutral is the ordering. G2 sells annual vendor plans and Capterra runs a pay per click auction on category pages, so the tools at the top are often the tools that paid. Read the reviews, ignore the running order.

Do software review sites charge vendors to be listed?

Basic listings are usually free, visibility is not. Capterra is free to claim and charges from a $2.00 per click floor for category placement. G2 quotes annual plans privately. A priority listing on this directory is $49 one time with the price published on the page. Expect the free tier to sit below every paying competitor.

Which software review site has the most reviews?

G2 reports more than two million verified reviews across roughly 2,000 categories, and Capterra reports a comparable validated review count across more than 900 categories. Since both now belong to G2, the combined pool is the largest in B2B software by a wide margin, which matters most in mature categories.

What are the best B2B software review sites for a small vendor?

A small vendor rarely wins on the big catalogs, because category order follows spend. The practical sequence is a fixed price listing on a niche directory first, so you have an indexable profile and a link, then a Capterra click test once you know your visitor to trial rate, then G2 when enterprise buyers start asking for it in RFPs.

Are there alternatives to G2 and Capterra?

Yes. TrustRadius stayed independent of the 2026 consolidation and verifies reviewers before publishing. SourceForge covers developer and downloadable software at scale. Smaller review directories cover early stage products that the large catalogs have not indexed yet, which is where most new AI and SaaS companies currently sit.
